Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Gedu Andargachew, Moscow, September 10, 2019
Mr Minister, friends,
We are delighted to welcome you to Moscow. First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your new appointment and to say what a pleasure it is to be meeting you personally.
Ethiopia has been a key partner for Russia in Africa for over 120 years. We appreciate the traditions of friendship, mutual respect, trust and support that have developed over this period of time and make up the basis of our relations today. I am sure that our talks today on the entire range of topics related to bilateral relations, as well as regional and international subjects on which we hold identical positions, will help us to advance our partnership to a new and higher level.
Since Ethiopians will start celebrating the Ethiopian New Year tomorrow, I would like to wish you a happy New Year, health, happiness and all the very best.
Once again, welcome to Moscow.
