On September 7, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov received a delegation of the Kurdish National Council headed by its chairman Ibrahim Biro which is in Moscow at the invitation of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences
The conversation included an in-depth exchange on the emerging military and political situation in Syria with a focus on the prospects for its stabilisation via the Syrian-led political process based on UNSC Resolution 2254.
The Russian side reiterated its support for efforts to set up a joint delegation of the Syrian opposition for talks in Geneva under UN auspices with the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic. A point of emphasis was the need for Syrian Kurds to be fully represented in the inclusive inter-Syrian dialogue aimed at reaching a political settlement as soon as possible in the interests of all ethnic and religious groups of Syrian society and to ensure the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
