The ASEM Regional Coordinators’ video conference took place on April 21, 2020.

The meeting was chaired by Cambodia as the host country of the 13th ASEM Summit (Phnom Penh, November 16-17, 2020) and joined by Senior Officials from Russia, Singapore, Croatia and the European External Action Service.

The participants discussed the priority tasks of cooperation under ASEM in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the ways of strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe in various areas.

Russia stressed that the ASEM work should be focused on the practical issues of post-pandemic recovery, including response to sanitary and epidemiological situation and normalization of socio-economic processes. Emphasis was placed on the need to step up interregional cooperation on sectoral tracks through the ministries of economy, transport, education, culture, as well as customs and migration agencies.

Particular attention was paid to the potential of online resources. A good example is the Russian project “STIpot” launched in 2019 as a digital channel fostering academic mobility and interactive dialogue among educational institutions, research fellows, teachers and students from Asia and Europe.
