We are very happy to see you. We meet regularly, which is useful in our special relations. Both Cuba and Russia have the most sincere, warm and human attitude towards our friendship.

Today, one day before the fifth anniversary of Fidel Castro’s death, we are bound to recall his contribution to bilateral strategic ties.

This legacy concerns not only our bilateral relations but also the principles of organising a new, fair world order in Latin American and the Caribbean countries as well as the rest of the world.

The Russian Federation and Cuba maintain close relations. Today, you are on a regular visit with a busy agenda. You will see Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov and meet officials in the Emergencies Ministry, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Presidential Executive Office and the Eurasian Economic Commission. Your programme reflects the depth of our ties and the extensive range of cooperation in all possible areas.

As for the activities of international organisations, primarily the UN, Russia and Cuba are the closest associates there. We closely coordinate our actions on the international agenda. This was confirmed again during our meeting with my Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last September.

Today, we have another good opportunity to see how we are moving forward in the areas set forth by our leaders as priorities, and to map out specific steps on implementing our current agreements.
