On the visit of Special Representative of the Russian Foreign Minister on the Middle East Peace Process to Israel

On May 26-29, Ambassador of Russia Anatoly Viktorov and Special Representative of the Russian Foreign Minister on the Middle East Peace Process Vladimir Safronkov held consultations with representatives of the leadership of the National Security Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

A detailed and interested exchange of views took place on a wide range of current issues on the bilateral, regional and international agendas, with an emphasis on the prospects for a Middle East peace process.

The generally constructive nature of Russian-Israeli cooperation was emphasized, and the intention to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, including on regional issues, was outlined. It was agreed to continue the inter-MFA dialogue in various formats.

In addition, on May 28, Anatoly Viktorov and Vladimir Safronkov held a meeting with the accredited heads of diplomatic missions of the CIS and BRICS countries, as well as Arab states in Israel. Russia's position in favor of advancing the Middle East peace process on a generally accepted international legal basis, including the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, with reliance on the countries of the region and in coordination with other responsible mediators, was confirmed.
