Russian Orthodox Christmas celebrated at Malta President’s Palace

On January 10, 2019, following a well-established tradition, Russian Orthodox Christmas was celebrated in the Russian Chapel of the San Anton Presidential Palace. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Valletta and the European Foundation for Support of Culture.

The audience was addressed by Ambassador Vladimir Malygin and Her Excellency President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who underlined the importance of this event for strengthening friendly ties between the two countries.

The celebration was marked by a performance by a distinguished Russian pianist, holder of the ‘People’s Artist of Russia’ title Vladimir Ovchinnikov, who performed The Seasons by Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The concert was followed by a reception.

Besides the President of Malta present for the celebration were the Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Dr. Carmelo Abela, prominent representatives of political, social, business and cultural circles of Malta, members of the Diplomatic Corps and the Russian community.
