Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Foreign Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord Mohamed Siala, Moscow, December 30, 2020
Welcome to Moscow. We believe that today's meeting is well-timed, because without exaggeration, we are meeting at a time when the future of your country is being decided.
The friendly Libyan people are suffering from the consequences of the NATO aggression and the subsequent civil war. They now need to make a historic choice in favour of national reconciliation and joint development of a stable and prosperous state, moving away from further fratricidal civil strife.
Russia is genuinely interested in rendering the maximum possible assistance in solving all your country’s problems. Today we will discuss the international community’s efforts to support the Libyans. We would appreciate your assessments concerning additional steps that need to be taken.
Today we will have a chance to exchange views on the prospects for the development of bilateral relations in various fields.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to wish everyone present a Happy New Year and once again, wish you a good stay in Moscow.
