Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Masrour Barzani
On February 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Masrour Barzani on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Participants in the meeting discussed a range of matters regarding the further progressive development of multilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Iraq, including stepping up interaction with Kurdish partners in the fuel and energy, investment and cultural and humanitarian areas.
While coordinating opinions on current regional agenda with an emphasis on the current developments in Iraq and the region, the two politicians noted the importance of the consolidation of the global community’s efforts in order to prevent the further escalation of military and political tensions in the Middle East and North Africa. In this context, they also touched upon the issue of settling the Syrian crisis with a focus on upholding the legal interests of all the ethnic and confessional groups within the Syrian population.
