Foreign Minster Sergey Lavrov’s answers to questions from the “Moscow, Kremlin, Putin” TV show, Moscow, December 1, 2019
Question: If the meeting with Ukraine’s President does take place, can it be a full-scale, full-format meeting?
Sergey Lavrov: It makes no sense trying to guess this. The meeting will be held in the Normandy Format – there will be four leaders there at the same time and in the same place. As the Presidential Executive Office has already stated, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky will have an opportunity to talk.
The meeting will not be a formal one, because it will be held on the sidelines of another event. Nevertheless, the contact will definitely be useful because we are keen to know the Ukrainian leader’s vision for implementing the Minsk agreements, following all those controversial and contradictory statements from Zelensky’s office.
Question: Will bilateral relations be also discussed?
Sergey Lavrov: That does not depend on us. We were not the ones who cut bilateral relations and interrupted transport connections. If the Ukrainian side, as many Kiev experts say now, is interested in resuming them, I think we won’t keep them waiting.
