Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu
On January 27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu during a phone call initiated by the Turkish side.
The ministers discussed the Syrian peace process following on the agreements reached during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
They considered the practical aspects of joint efforts to effectively fight the terrorist threat and ensure the de-escalation regime in the Idlib zone according to the Russian-Turkish memorandum of September 17, 2018.
The Russian Foreign Minister mentioned the facts of radicals stationed in the Idlib zone violating the ceasefire agreement and stressed the need to separate the opposition forces from terrorists. The ministers agreed to continue close contacts between the militaries.
They reaffirmed their support for the Syrian Constitutional Committee in the context of intensifying the inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue and promoting settlement under the auspices of the UN and the guarantor countries of the Astana Process.
