the Republic of Tunisia
Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the situation in Tunisia
On the 5 October in Tunisia, leaders of parties included in the ruling coalition, after uneasy and long negotiations, coordinated and signed a "roadmap" establishing modalities and time frames to find a way out of the long political crisis in the country.
This document envisages the establishment of an independent elections commission and the approval of the law on elections in four weeks. Dates of presidential and parliamentary elections should be fixed, the work on the constitution should be finished, but after the resignation of the current government – a temporary cabinet of ministers-technocrats was formed.
On the platform of this document a nation-wide dialogue conference was convened, in which 24 parties presented in the Constituency Assembly of the countryparticipated.
We welcome this important domestic policy event. We appeal to all social and political forces in Tunisia to continue a wide dialogue to find mutually acceptable solutions in the interests of all the Tunisians. We presume that stabilisation of the internal political situation in this friendly country will create conditions for the successful solution of social and economic tasks and the conducting of the necessary democratic transformations.
