On November 27, the Republic of Namibia held presidential and parliamentary elections. According to the report by the Namibian Election Commission released on December 3, Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of Namibia and candidate from the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), won 57.31 percent in the presidential election, winning the race.  

SWAPO once again won the absolute majority in the election to the National Assembly (the lower house of the Namibian parliament), or 51 out of 96 mandates.

Independent international observers, including representatives of the African Union and the Southern African Development Community, established that the popular expression of will took place peacefully, and no serious violations affecting the electoral process were exposed.

Russia welcomes the success of the national elections in Namibia, the most important events in the domestic policy of this state. Moscow qualifies the outcome of the vote as indication of the Namibian people’s high trust in the SWAPO party and its leader Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Russia reaffirms its unwavering intention to develop the multifaceted Russia-Namibia cooperation in a consistent manner for the benefit of our peoples, in the interests of strengthening peace and stability on the African continent.
