PRESS RELEASE

A telephone conversation took place on July 20 between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov and the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Libya, Abdel-Elah Al-Khatib.

The Special Envoy informed the Russian side of his latest diplomatic efforts to elaborate a formula for a political settlement of the crisis in Libya.

Lavrov accentuated the necessity to put the Libyan situation on a politico-diplomatic track as soon as possible, and backed up the efforts being undertaken by the Special Envoy. The Minister recommended that Al-Khatib coordinate his actions with other mediators.
