Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answer to a media question in connection with the situation regarding Kaliningrad transit

1440-08-07-2022

Question: What is the current situation regarding Vilnius’ decision to impose sanctions on railway transit between the Kaliningrad Region and mainland Russia?

Maria Zakharova: We are continuing our dialogue with the European Commission, and they are assuring us that the issue will be resolved in the near future.

We hope that Brussels and Vilnius will make the only correct decision, ensuring unimpeded transit to the Russian exclave.

At the same time, our economic operators are already incurring losses due to illegal unilateral restrictions that have been introduced by the Lithuanian side. We will not wait forever. We are warning once again that if the situation is not stabilised in the near future, Russia will implement tough measures with regard to Lithuania and the European Union, which have already been drafted. It has taken way too long to resolve this problem.
