Greetings to the participants and organisers of the 16th Conference of Russian and German Partner Cities.

It is gratifying to know that your forum is a true “all-weather” event and that it meets regularly despite the challenging epidemiological situation and the obvious problems in relations between our countries. Russia deeply appreciates the high level of mutual understanding and trust between the Russian and German peoples and considers it a factor of stability in the European and broader Eurasian space.

Russian-German cross initiatives, which have maintained positive dynamics are making a valuable contribution to promoting contacts between our societies. The Year of Scientific and Educational Partnerships (2018-2020) has ended successfully. The Year of the Economy and Sustainable Development (2020-2022) is being sponsored by our respective foreign ministers and focuses on collaboration in innovation, energy, transport, municipal economy and environmental protection.

Region-to-region and municipality-to-municipality ties have a special role to play in promoting the unifying principles underlying bilateral relations. Twenty Russian constituent entities and 110 municipalities have teamed up with their German counterparts to work on a variety of projects.

I am confident that being one of the main events in the Year of Germany in Russia, which started in 2020, your conference will bring our positions closer, help us find new common ground and create promising dialogue and cooperation areas.

I wish you productive discussions and all the best.
