Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire Marcel Amon-Tanoh, Moscow, July 17, 2019
Mr Foreign Minister,
We are glad to welcome you to Moscow. As we have just found out, this is the first visit of the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs to our country.
Nevertheless, we have a very good history of bilateral relations. They are friendly and mutually respectful. Russia, like Côte d’Ivoire, is interested in reinforcing the foundations of the world order on the basis of the UN Charter. In earlier times and now, we have actively cooperated at the UN Security Council, where Côte d’Ivoire is currently a non-permanent member and assists in reaching understandings on key issues pertaining to the African continent and international life in general.
Our bilateral relations have always been notable for shared interest in promoting mutually beneficial projects. Today we have an opportunity to look at our prospects in energy and the economy, and discuss cooperation in industrial production, agriculture, culture, education and the military-technical sphere.
I am sure we will have a useful conversation. Welcome again to the Russian Federation.
