Comment by the Information and Press Department on terrorist attacks in Cote d’Ivoire
On March 13, terrorist attacks were committed in Cote d’Ivoire, in a resort area near the town of Grand-Bassam on the Atlantic coast. Terrorists opened automatic gunfire on three hotels and tourists on the adjacent beach, killing 16 civilians and wounding around 20 people. A loss of life was reported among the Ivorian servicemen involved in the counter-terrorist operation.
According to the Russian Embassy in Abidjan, there are no Russian citizens among the casualties.
Moscow strongly condemns this crime, the responsibility for which has been claimed by the Al-Mourabitoun extremist group linked to the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) terrorist organisation.
We offer our deep condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish those wounded a speedy recovery.
