On 14 January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Burundi's Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation Laurent Kavakure, who was in Moscow on a working visit.

The ministers exchanged opinions on a wide range of current global and regional issues and pointed to the concurrence or similarity of Russia's and Burundi's views. They also pointed out the need to ensure equal and fair interstate relations and inadmissibility of dual standards and unilateral actions on the international stage, highlighting the importance of strengthening the UN's central role in global affairs.

Sergey Lavrov put forth Russia's stance on the Ukrainian crisis, which the Burundi minister accepted sympathetically.

The ministers spoke in detail about the situation in the problem areas in Africa, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and South Sudan and in the area of the Great Lakes.

They expressed intention to continue to foster mutually beneficial trade and economic relations between Russia and Burundi, primarily in exploration, the production of mineral resources, power generation and agriculture.
