Comment by the Information and Press Department in connection with a terrorist attack in eastern Burkina Faso
On November 6, a group of militants attacked a convoy escorting Burkina Faso workers from mining company SEMAFO in Boungou in the country’s eastern region. According to preliminary reports, 37 people were killed and over 60 sustained various degrees of injury. Burkina Faso’s law enforcement agencies are now searching for the criminals and investigating the incident.
We firmly condemn this terrorist attack, which is far from the first outrage of this kind perpetrated by extremist forces in Burkina Faso. We are confident that local law enforcement agencies will take all necessary action to identify the organisers and perpetrators of this barbaric crime and to punish them accordingly.
We offer our deep condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
