Mr Secretary-General, dear friend,

We carry on our intense dialogue between the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Arab League.

Slightly more than a month ago, we met in Cairo during the combined visit by the Russian foreign and defence ministers to Egypt. In February 2017, a regular session of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum’s ministerial meeting was held in Abu Dhabi. During that meeting, the foreign ministers of the Arab League countries and Russia expressed their shared opinion on the need to focus on fighting terrorism and settling crises and conflicts in Arab countries. These fundamental agreements provide the basis for our regular ties with all the parties involved.

We believe that the League of Arab States is playing an increasingly important role in the efforts to settle problems in the Middle East and North Africa. We want the Arab League to continue to strengthen its role and its activities to be inclusive, that is, to include all Arab states without exception.

There are many issues we need to discuss. Once again, thank you for accepting our invitation. Considering the situation in the region, the more often we meet the better it is for our common objectives.
