Comment by the Information and Press Department on new US regulations regarding Cuba

  • ru-RU1 en-GB1 es-ES1

The new anti-Cuban regulations, which the US Department of State, the Department of Treasury and the Department of Commerce prepared in keeping with changes to the country’s Cuba policy announced by President Donald Trump in June, became effective on November 9.

These steps made by the current US administration are highly regrettable and are evidence of a throwback in US-Cuban relations and the curtailment of many positive achievements reached during a short period of time when these ties were moving towards normalisation.

These discriminatory measures will raise new obstacles to the socioeconomic development of Cuba. They are fully in line with the US policy of toughening sanctions against Cuba, but they contradict the recent resolution on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, which the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly adopted on November 1. While 191 other countries voted for it, the United States voted against, which signified a shift in its policy from last year.
