1929-22-09-2022

On September 21, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The ministers expressed confidence in the stable development and good prospects of Russia-China relations. They discussed current aspects on the bilateral, global and regional agendas, sharply criticised Washington’s destructive foreign policy, in particular its provocative actions in the Taiwan Strait. They also talked about the situation around Ukraine, Afghanistan and the Korean Peninsula, as well as compliance with the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

The ministers had a confidential in-depth exchange of views on the key aspects of UN activity and highlighted the further deepening of their countries’ cooperation in that format. They emphasised the importance of unconditional compliance of the host country with its obligations to ensure the work of the UN General Assembly and unhindered access to the New York venue for foreign delegates.

They noted with satisfaction the high effectiveness of Russia-China interaction on various UN platforms and agreed to continue to build up their practical cooperation and foreign policy coordination in keeping with the agreements reached by their heads of state.

The meeting has again demonstrated the closeness of Russia’s and China’s views on global affairs, which allows them to coordinate their approaches to all international issues and play a constructive role in the process of forming a fairer and more stable polycentric world order.
