Comment by the Information and Press Department on the desecration of the Eternal Flame in Kiev

We were outraged to learn about another act of vandalism. On November 20, the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Park of Glory in central Kiev was again filled with concrete.

The fact that it is the second profane act in Kiev in the past month and those responsible have not yet been identified and punished for desecrating the memory of those killed in the Great Patriotic War indicates either the Kiev authorities’ criminal connivance or their cowardice and inability to rebuff uncontrolled radicals. Both are appalling and cause serious concern about the future of Ukraine, where we are witnessing the revival of neo-Nazism.

We call on the global community to take note of the events in Ukraine and strongly condemn outrages committed by the Ukrainian nationalists.
