Press release on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Australia
October 10, 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Australia.
On the occasion of this anniversary, a ceremony to open an exhibition of archive documents tracing the history of Russian-Australian ties over the past three quarters of a century took place at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Australian Ambassador to Russia Peter Tesch spoke during the opening ceremony. Both lauded the rich experience, accumulated since the first Russian-Australian contacts in the 19th century, of joint efforts in various fields both at a bilateral level and in regional and international issues. The officials reaffirmed the mutual commitment of their countries to develop equal and mutually respectful cooperation in a wide variety of areas for the benefit of the two countries' peoples and for the sake of strengthening regional and global stability and security.
