Press release on the Foreign Ministry Diplomatic Academy’s courses for diplomats from Latin American and Caribbean countries
On October 14-25, regular diplomatic courses “International Relations. Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation” were held for diplomats from Latin American and Caribbean countries for the fourth time. They were organised by the Diplomatic Academy in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Latin America.
The courses were attended by 42 diplomats from 21 countries in the region: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentine, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, Grenada, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay, El Salvador, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador. They work in the central offices of their foreign ministries, representative offices abroad and embassies in Moscow.
Lectures for Latin American diplomats were delivered by deputy ministers, directors and executives of the Ministry’s Department of Latin America, Information and Press Department, Foreign Policy Planning Department, Department for New Challenges and Threats, Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights, Department of International Organisations, Department for Security Affairs and Disarmament, Department of Economic Cooperation, Department of European Cooperation, the Director for the Department of Trade Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Scientific Director of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Institute of Latin America, the General Director of the National Committee of Assistance and Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries, the Metropolitan of the Argentine and South American Russian Orthodox Church, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea and its Permanent Presidential Representative, as well as professors and employees from the Diplomatic Academy.
The presentation of a collection of articles on Russia’s foreign policy and Russian-Mexican relations issued by the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs was conducted in cooperation with the Embassy of Mexico.
Latin American diplomats were offered an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Russia and Moscow’s points of interest. They visited museums of the Moscow Kremlin, the Victory Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Ilya Glazunov Gallery, Zaryadye Park, and the Museum of Russia’s Social Strata. They saw a performance by the Russian Ballet Theatre directed by People’s Artist of the USSR Vyacheslav Gordeyev, watched a regular championship match of the Kontinental Hockey League at VTB Arena and attended a party with the Grenada Folk Ensemble of Russia musical group.
The diplomatic courses for diplomats from Latin American and Caribbean countries are appreciated by the heads of many foreign ministries of these states. It has become a useful channel for informing their diplomats of Russia’s position on the main trends in global development and our positions on key current problems and challenges, and it has promoted Russian-Latin American cooperation in the world arena.
