Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s talks with member of the State Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi
On February 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and member of the State Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi met in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, on the sidelines of the Russia-India-China ministerial meeting.
The ministers focused on the preparations for major bilateral political events planned for this year: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing in April, and President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia to attend the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
They also discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation and coordination in global affairs, with an emphasis on cooperation in the Russia-India-China format. They exchanged views on current international matters, including arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, developments in Venezuela, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Syrian settlement, and Afghanistan.
A Plan of Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs for 2019 was signed following the talks.
