Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Elizabeth Truss
On September 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Elizabeth Truss on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The discussion focused on the current state of bilateral relations. Russia again stated the lack of progress in solving the problems that were preventing the resumption of a full-scale political dialogue and London’s persisting unwillingness to build interstate ties on the basis of equality and mutual regard for each other’s interests.
Sergey Lavrov underscored in particular that it is imperative for the UK to renounce its provocative activities in the vicinity of Russian borders, activities that are creating a real threat to regional security. He called on London to engage in responsible cooperation and take concrete actions to shape a positive agenda in bilateral cooperation.
The ministers also exchanged views on a number of current international and regional problems.
