Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence Simon Coveney

On September 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence of Ireland Simon Coveney on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The conversation focused on Russian-Irish relations. The Russian side’s readiness to continue cooperation based on equality and mutual consideration of interests was stressed, as well as the mutual intention to fruitfully hold the 13th session of the bilateral Intergovernmental Committee for the Development of Business Cooperation scheduled to take place in Dublin this December.

In the context of Ireland’s presidency of the UN Security Council in September, the parties also discussed topical issues on the international agenda with an emphasis on the developments in Afghanistan, the Syrian settlement process, and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
