Greetings by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the Asia and Pacific High-level Conference on Belt and Road Cooperation
Dear participants of the High-level video-conference,
Today, the entire world community is experiencing serious upheavals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Broad multilateral cooperation and a unifying agenda are required for comprehensive overcoming of its consequences and effective post-Covid recovery.
Our Chinese friends have successfully implemented the ambitious "One Belt, One Road" project aimed to strengthen infrastructure connectivity and ensure sustainable growth. At the same time integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union have been effectively promoted. I am pleased to say that recently we have substantially advanced in aligning plans of the EAEU development and the Belt and Road construction. In particular, the implementation of the Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the EAEU and China continues.
These joined efforts provide a solid ground for shaping a broad cooperation framework in Eurasia in line with the "integration of integrations" concept. This is the goal of the Russian President Vladimir Putin's initiative to create a Greater Eurasian Partnership as an "umbrella" format designed to combine the potential of States and international organizations, first of all Eurasian Economic Union, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and ASEAN. In this regard, the agreement between the leaders of Russia and China on parallel and coordinated advancement of the Greater Eurasian Partnership and "One Belt, One Road" initiatives is extremely important.
I am certain that today's video-conference will allow for a useful exchange of opinions and will lead to promising joint efforts. I wish you fruitful discussions and all the best.
