Press release on the Moscow meeting of extended Troika on peaceful settlement in Afghanistan
On March 18, Moscow hosted a regular meeting of the extended Troika on Afghanistan (Russia, China, the United States and Pakistan) comprised of special representatives with participation of delegations from the Government and the High Council for National Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Afghanistan’s political activists, the Taliban movement, as well as Qatar and Turkey delegations as guests of honour. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov delivered welcoming remarks at the meeting.
The participants discussed various aspects of the peaceful settlement process in Afghanistan. The representatives of the extended Troika urged the parties to the Afghanistan conflict to reach constructive solutions in order to end the civil war as soon as possible through agreements on the formation of an inclusive government with the participation of the Taliban movement.
A joint statement was adopted following the meeting of the extended Troika.
