Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
On December 25, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt Sameh Shoukry.
The ministers discussed the status of the multidimensional cooperation between Russia and Egypt and the prospects for developing it further in keeping with the Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation signed in 2018. They particularly focused on the implementation of two ambitious projects in the area of bilateral trade and economic cooperation: the construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant and the establishment of a Russian industrial zone in Egypt.
Sergey Lavrov and Sameh Shoukry noted the importance of the efforts to ensure an inclusive national dialogue in Libya and reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that country, as well as to a peaceful settlement of the intra-Libyan conflict, in keeping with the Berlin Conference on Libya decisions and UN Security Council Resolution 2510.
The ministers reaffirmed their position that it is important to secure the right of Syrians to independently determine the fate of their country, as specified in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The Russian and Egyptian foreign ministers reiterated that it is important to consolidate the international community’s efforts to restart direct Palestinian-Israeli talks to resolve all final issues of the territories’ status and secure comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
