Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Moscow, December 23, 2020
Welcome to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Due to well-known circumstances, we have been communicating mainly by phone this year. However, we have stayed in contact. I am glad that today we can meet in person.
We know that you had several important meetings at the Russian Government, ministries and agencies. I am certain that the visit of your delegation, which includes Minister of Finance Ali Shareef Al Emadi, will bring results that will move our relationship forward in all areas.
There has been a positive dynamic in the trade between Russia and Qatar, which is good news. Investment projects as well as inter-parliamentary contacts, contacts in culture, education, sports and between our peoples remain important aspects of our cooperation. We believe that all this enriches our bilateral relations, our opportunities for cooperation in the international arena, and helps us progress towards achieving the goals set during regular contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar.
In addition to the messages passed along, we would like to congratulate everybody here on Qatar National Day, which you celebrated on December 18.
