Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to the participants and hosts of the opening ceremony of the Russian-German Cross-Year of the Economy and Sustainable Development 2020-2022
I extend my warmest greetings to the participants and hosts of the opening ceremony of yet another Cross-Year.
It is symbolic that today’s event is part of the first meeting of the bilateral Economic Council set up at the initiative of the Russian Government and the Eastern Committee of German Economy. Today, trade and economic cooperation remains one of the most stable and pragmatic elements on the Russian-German agenda and contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the two nations and the wellbeing of our people.
It is gratifying that the Cross-Year’s programme is packed with events. Among our priorities are joint efforts to unlock the great potential of practical cooperation between Russia and Germany as well as to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals until 2030. Special focus is being placed to collaboration in hydrogen energy, digitisation, and joint innovation projects as part of the Partnership for Effectiveness initiative.
Russian-German Cross-Year initiatives have demonstrated their relevance in practice. I believe that this time as well the coordinators of this ambitious joint project, with support from the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the Eastern Committee of German Economy, will make best efforts to successfully implement it.
I wish you productive work and all the very best.
