Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's telephone conversation with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Yves Le Drian
On October 28, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The ministers thoroughly discussed developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, expressed serious concern over the ongoing large-scale hostilities, and called on the warring parties for an expeditious and full ceasefire and de-escalation of tension. They also emphasised the absence of alternatives to a diplomatic solution to the conflict and the need for further coordinated actions by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. Possible scenarios of how the situation may develop were considered.
Mr Lavrov and Mr Le Drian especially noted the importance of the conflicting parties showing political will to end the hostilities.
The ministers also reviewed a number of current issues on the bilateral agenda, with an emphasis on the need to develop cooperation between law enforcement agencies, including in the context of French Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin’s possible visit to Russia to discuss a wide range of issues related to countering terrorism and extremist ideology.
