Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with the French Republic’s Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian
Following the March 26 telephone conversation between Russian and French presidents, the French side initiated a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the French Republic’s Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The ministers discussed the situation with the spread of the coronavirus infection in the context of the March 26 videoconference of G20 heads of state and government. They reviewed measures for closely coordinating efforts, including those in addressing matters linked with the repatriation of both countries’ citizens.
They also exchanged views on possible UN Security Council steps to help strengthen international peace and security in the context of the joint struggle against the virus. They underscored the special role of permanent UN Security Council members in facilitating coordinated actions of the international community in addressing global challenges in line with the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin on preparing for a UNSC P5 summit.
The ministers also conducted a detailed exchange of views on topical tasks to resolve the conflicts in Libya, Syria and Ukraine.
