Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri
On August 27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic Saad Hariri at the initiative of the Lebanese side.
In connection with an incident involving Israeli drones that overflew Beirut on August 25, Saad Hariri asked Russia to use its authority and influence to prevent a further escalation of tensions between Israel and Lebanon that would threaten regional security.
The Russian side reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and stability of friendly Lebanon and underscored the need for unfailing compliance by all sides with international law, including the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Moscow consistently adheres to this line at the UN Security Council and in its contacts with regional countries.
