Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Adel al-Jubeir, Moscow, April 26, 2017
We welcome this opportunity to exchange views on the state of our bilateral relations and to discuss cooperation on the international and regional stage.
Our leaders, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and His Majesty King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, are in regular contact and set the guidelines for our relations. These guidelines encompass practically all areas of our activity, including political dialogue, ties between our agencies (foreign ministries and ministries responsible for economic issues), inter-parliamentary ties, and humanitarian cooperation. It goes without saying that we greatly value our cooperation, looking from the point of view of our countries’ respective positions on regional and international issues, and we value our growing mutual understanding in many areas, not just in international affairs, but also on the way global mineral resources markets work. I hope to have the chance to discuss all of this in detail today.
We will give particular attention to the situation in Syria and the settlement efforts, which are now entering a critical phase. It is important here to maintain daily contact.
Once again, welcome.
