Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks following the signing of Russia-Ecuador documents on the sidelines of the CELAC Quartet of foreign ministers meeting, Sochi, November 14, 2016
My colleague and friend, Foreign Minister of Ecuador Guillaume Long, and I have just signed a package of documents, which we believe will consolidate our future partnership. The convention on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of income tax evasion will absolutely strengthen the foundations of our economic cooperation and further strengthen Ecuador's positions in Russia's foreign trade. Ecuador is one of our leading partners in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The joint statement on no first placement of weapons in outer space is a contribution to UN activities, where this subject is being promoted on a multilateral basis and is gaining an increasing number of supporters.
The third document, the joint statement by foreign ministers of Russia and Ecuador, embraces all the main areas of our bilateral cooperation in the international arena, primarily, in the UN, as well as in the context of expanding relations between Russia and integration associations in Latin America. Of course, we will be discussing these matters in greater detail during our bilateral meeting and during today’s CELAC multilateral ministerial meeting, in which I will participate.
