Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent a message to Foreign Minister of Colombia Maria Angela Holguin on the signing of a final peace accord by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Rodrigo Londono, Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Sergey Lavrov congratulated Ms Holguin and all Colombians on the historic peace deal and wished them success in building a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Colombia.

Sergey Lavrov wrote in the message that the peace deal was largely made possible thanks to the energetic meditation of the guarantor countries – Cuba and Norway – and the contribution of Venezuela and Chile. He expressed confidence that the peace accord will help strengthen stability and security in Latin America and promote Colombia’s cooperation with its foreign partners in dealing with current issues.

The Russian minister also pointed to Russia’s readiness to support the Colombian peace accord on the international stage and also to further advance bilateral relations, including in light of new opportunities during the post-conflict reforms in Colombia.
