Press release on Russia signing the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
On April 22, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Khloponin, acting on behalf of the Russian Federation, signed the Paris Agreement adopted at the December 2015 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference. This reaffirms Russia’s commitment to the joint objectives of the international community in global warming.
The Paris Agreement, which brings together the efforts of the leading and emerging economies in a common international legal framework, has created a reliable foundation for a lasting solution to climate change.
We hope that negotiations will be launched soon under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to draft rules for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This will create conditions for the enforcement of the agreement. We are ready for further involvement in the talks and cooperation with all countries in the spirit of partnership and collective responsibility.
