Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova’s comment on the use of chemical warfare agents by terrorist groups in Syria

On October 30, terrorists reportedly fired homemade shells stuffed with toxic agents at the Hamdaniya and Dahiyat al-Assad neighbourhoods in western Aleppo poisoning at least 35 people, many of whom have been hospitalised.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated instance of terrorists using chemical weapons against civilians. In 2013, the militants used them in eastern Ghouta in the vicinity of Khan al-Asal outside Aleppo; in the town of Marea in the same province in 2015; and in the summer of 2016 during the shelling of the Salah al-Din neighbourhood of Aleppo.

We strongly condemn this terrorist attack on civilians in Aleppo using chemical agents. We consider it our duty to remind those who, according to their own statements, have influence with the armed forces of the Syrian opposition, about the need to fulfil their commitments and to draw a clear line, as soon as possible, between the "moderate" opposition and terrorists from ISIS, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as Nusra), and other such illegal formations.
