Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin’s participation in International High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen
The virtual International High-Level Pledging Conference for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen took place on June 2. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin headed the Russian delegation.
Event participants discussed ways of rectifying the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen. Today, 80 percent of the country’s population are in need of urgent international assistance.
Addressing the event, a Russian delegate underscored the fact that it was only possible to effectively solve the humanitarian problems facing Yemen in conditions of a comprehensive political settlement in the interests of the entire Yemeni nation.
The Russian side said it would allocate $4 million this year for providing emergency food aid to the people of Yemen under the UN World Food Programme.
