Comment by the Information and Press Department on US officials’ statements regarding Russian Air Force activities in the Asia Pacific

  • en-GB1 ru-RU1

We are perplexed by the concern expressed by US officials that Russian Air Force activities, in particular the use of the facility in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, for refuelling, “could raise tensions in the region.”

It is strange to hear this from representatives of a state which has armed forces permanently deployed in several Asia-Pacific countries and which continues to build up its military activity in the region.

As for Russian Air Force activities or Russia’s defence cooperation with foreign partners, including Vietnam, they are conducted in strict compliance with international law and bilateral agreements, are not targeted against any country, and do not threaten peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
