Comment by the Information and Press Department on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Turkmenistan
On February 3, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Turkmenistan in accordance with the agreements reached between President Vladimir Putin and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Astrakhan on September 29, 2014.
Mr Lavrov will hold talks with the leaders of Turkmenistan on bilateral relations, including their humanitarian aspect. They will exchange opinions on key international issues, in particular, Russian-Turkmen cooperation in the UN and the CIS, in which Turkmenistan is an associate member. Their talks will focus on Central Asia, considering the situation in Afghanistan, and the Middle East.
The foreign ministers of Russia and Turkmenistan will sign a programme of cooperation between their ministries in 2015, which includes a schedule of bilateral and multilateral consultations.
Russia highly values its cooperation with Turkmenistan on many foreign policy, economic and humanitarian issues. The upcoming visit by Sergey Lavrov should further strengthen traditional friendly relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.
