Comment by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department in connection with Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna’s statement that Auschwitz concentration camp was “liberated by the Ukrainians”
It is hard to suspect an official at this level such as Grzegorz Schetyna of ignorance. It is well known that Auschwitz was liberated by Red Army troops that consisted of all ethnic groups participating in the heroic fight. By the way, prior to November 1943, the 1st Ukrainian Front was called the Voronezh Front, and earlier, the Briansk Front.
Yet the cause seems to be different. We believe that one should cease to mock history and extend anti-Russian hysteria to disrespect the memory of those who did not spare their lives for liberation of Europe.
