Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the events in Ukraine
The situation in the centre of Kiev has drastically worsened. The militants, with whom opposition leaders attribute a so-called "peaceful attack", have beaten up and thrown stones at law enforcement officials, burned cars, destroyed a pharmacy, attacked the headquarters of the Party of Regions, and blocked the building of the Verkhovna Rada. Ultimatum requirements are posed to deputies. The opposition is already out of control. It is a sincere desecration of the order of law, and common sense.
These events are a direct result of the connivance policy by those Western politicians and European structures which have been turning a blind eye to aggressive actions of radical forces in Ukraine from the very beginning, thus stimulating their escalation and provocations against legitimate power.
We appeal again to the Ukrainian opposition to refrain from threats and ultimatums and to establish a substantial dialogue with authorities for the purposes of stopping the big crisis in the country.
