Press release on the meeting between representatives of Russia and Ukraine and President of the International Court of Justice
On May 12, a meeting took place in The Hague between representatives from Russia and Ukraine and the President of the International Court of Justice on the lawsuit on the application of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The parties discussed procedural aspects of the further hearing of the lawsuit by the ICJ.
Ukraine must present a memorandum with its detailed requests under this case before June 12, 2018. The deadline for Russia to respond will be July 12, 2019. Moreover, after receiving Ukraine’s memorandum, Russia will then be able to make its preliminary objections against the court’s exercising jurisdiction. In this case, the hearing on the merits will be preceded by another stage of the proceedings that will focus on these objections.
