On June 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov received the leader of Syria’s Tomorrow Movement, a Syrian opposition group, Ahmad Jarba.

The sides discussed the developments in Syria and around it, emphasising the importance of consolidating the ceasefire in the Syrian Arab Republic as part of the Astana Process talks. Ahmad Jarba welcomed the newly formed de-escalation zones in Syria as a crucial step towards restoring trust between Syrians, returning refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes, and recovering the country’s economy severely damaged by the war.

The Syria’s Tomorrow Movement leader confirmed the moderate opposition’s commitment to the consistent fight against terrorism and to a political and diplomatic resolution of the Syrian crisis via an inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue under the aegis of the UN.

On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov had consultations with Ahmad Jarba at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
