Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Foreign Ministers of Central Asian states
On October 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in the second meeting of foreign ministers of Russia and Central Asian states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – on the sidelines of the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Ashgabat.
The ministers discussed important issues of current interaction in the six-country format on regional stability and security, economic cooperation, interaction in the international arena, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian fields.
Sergey Lavrov highlighted technological and investment opportunities citing numerous projects involving Russian companies in various sectors of the Central Asian economy, and shared with the meeting participants proposals for economic activities within the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, which have potential of regional significance. He also presented research projects developed by Russian scientists and experts in the field of water conservation taking into account the climatic and hydrological characteristics of the Central Asian region.
The participants reaffirmed a common interest in continuing the productive exchange of views in this format on a regular basis.
