The Minister’s meetings
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with Sudanese Presidential Aide Awad Ahmed al-Jazz, Moscow, September 8, 2017
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Moscow.
I would like to begin by expressing our sincere gratitude for our Sudan partners’ condolences over the tragic death of Russian Ambassador to Sudan Mirgayas Shirinsky. Thank you for providing such prompt assistance in solving all questions related to the repatriation of the deceased.
Sudan is an old partner to which Russia is connected by many years of friendship. We appreciate the advantages of this and we are trying to make the best use of this precious asset to promote our cooperation at this stage.
We have always advocated a fair approach to all the problems concerning Sudan. We proposed including these issues on the agenda of international talks and encouraged the international community to adopt approaches that are based primarily on the fundamental principles of international law such as respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of others.
Just like our Sudanese friends, we are certainly interested in the all-round development of our trade, economic and investment cooperation as well as in the implementation of joint projects. As far as I know, this is one of the main reasons for your visit to Russia. We will do our best to encourage this approach.
Welcome to Moscow.
